Nathalie – Legal Guardian
Working as a Legal Guardian means that no two days are the same. The job is varied and dynamic. It’s a great combination of fieldwork and desk work, with a lot of contact with people. You often visit your minors in the Reception Center, in the residential group or with family, but you also accompany them to appointments with a lawyer, the youth court, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons, the Immigration Office, … Your job is always guided by the minor’s needs, and every action you take is in line with their best interests. You have a coordinating role, ensuring that the young person is well supported in every area of life (housing, school, medical care, psychological support, etc.).
Nathalie explains that her greatest satisfaction comes from seeing that what has been set up together with the young person truly has impact — when the process she initiated, alone or with partners, clearly has result. It is deeply meaningful when actions contribute to a better quality of life, more stability and room for personal development. The trust she receives in return — both from the young person and from the broader network — is also an important source of fulfillment.
