Lieve - Team Leader Mobile Blood Collections
As team leader of Mobile blood collections in the Leie region (West Flanders), I’m not only responsible for the collections themselves, but I also manage about twenty colleagues and act as the point of contact for volunteers on site.
"The contact with donors — that’s the most important thing for me.”
I started my career at Belgian Red Cross‑Flanders in 1983 at the transfusion center in Roeselare. In addition to collecting blood, I also took on laboratory and administrative tasks. As a clinical lab technician, I had done an internship in a lab and realized that I really needed human contact to enjoy my work. After that, I worked for two years in a general practice, but that job made it harder to combine work and private life. At the time, the Red Cross was the perfect alternative for me.
Besides personal contact with people, it’s also incredibly important to me to get opportunities to keep developing and to feel recognized. Over the years, of course, I’ve seen many things evolve. That sometimes came with uncertainty, but on the other hand, change also provides the challenges we need!
